Updates
What it does
When a MyCelium mod that opted in registers itself, Mycel kicks off a background check for a newer release. The check is deliberately boring:
- Async and cached. It never blocks startup or the server tick. Results are remembered so it does not ask twice.
- HTTPS only. No plain-HTTP requests, ever.
- Silent on failure. No network, slow network, weird proxy: you will never see an error about it. It just skips the check.
Each mod decides for itself whether to opt in, so the checker only ever runs for mods whose authors asked for it.
Turning it off
If you would rather have zero update traffic (offline servers, locked-down modpacks), disable it globally in Mycel's own config file, config/mycel.json:
{
"enableUpdateChecker": false
}
Save the file and restart the game or server to be sure the change is picked up. This one switch covers every MyCelium mod at once; there is no per-mod toggle.
config/mycel.json with the checker disabled. See modpacks.
Staying current yourself
The checker is a convenience, not a replacement for reading release notes. When you do update, pin the set together (game version, loader, Mycel, mods) and check the changelog for which versions belong together.
